A custom California tuning shop has developed a hybrid off-road vehicle that merges a Lexus GX 550 with a Toyota Tacoma, directly addressing the automaker’s absence of a luxury pickup truck. The Lexus TX1, revealed at the 2026 SEMA Show, merges the GX’s refined aesthetics with the Tacoma’s mid-size truck foundation, presenting a high-end option beyond Toyota’s standard offerings.

The TX1’s styling borrows from Lexus’s luxury SUV lineup, incorporating the GX’s signature horizontal grille slats and a prominent silver badge. These design elements blend smoothly with the truck’s rugged features. To emphasize its off-road readiness, the build includes a rally-inspired light bar mounted above the windshield and a high-clearance front bumper. The rear retains the GX 550’s straight-across LED light bar and a recessed bumper, reinforcing its dual-purpose appeal.

Originally conceived as a digital sketch, the project advanced into a full-scale creation using CAD models and bespoke components. Meso Customs, the Yuba City-based workshop behind the TX1, installed a King Off-Road Racing Shocks lift kit, 74Weld portal axles, and 38-inch Toyo Tires to sharpen its off-road capabilities. The truck’s bed was custom-crafted to replicate the GX’s hatchback silhouette, with Baja Designs lighting integrated beneath and beside the mirrors.

Though not an official Lexus or Toyota production model, it carries no backing from either brand, the TX1 fills a noticeable void in the market. Toyota’s luxury division has never produced a pickup, despite persistent consumer interest in premium truck alternatives. The concept’s practicality was showcased by its display alongside a color-matched Honda Grom in the bed, illustrating how a luxury truck could merge sophistication with functionality.
