CitroĆ«n is reviving the 2CV nameplate for an electric version that could arrive by the end of 2028. The concept measures 3.76 meters long, placing it between the Ami quadricycle and the C3 model. CitroĆ«n projects a starting price around ā¬15,000, or about Ā£12,700, according to the company. This cost comes from the EUās new “E-car” regulations, which aim to create a class of simpler, cheaper small electric vehicles.
Design Choices for Affordability
CitroĆ«n is baking cost-cutting into the design rather than adding it later. The glass is flat, as curved glass is more expensive. The black rear end is molded directly into the tailgate to avoid painting it. The production model will also feature steel wheels with 18-inch Michelin tires, replacing the conceptās plastic covers. Officials expect the car to weigh about 1,000kg, suggesting a smaller battery pack and unconfirmed range figures.

While the concept lacked opening windows, the production version will include roll-down units up front and pop-out windows at the back. The interior design continues the minimalist theme with no dashboard. A barrel-shaped pod houses a single-spoke steering wheel and a gear selector, with a small e-ink screen showing speed and warnings. Storage solutions in the doors feature egg-shaped bins, and the brake pedal includes a tortoise graphic while the accelerator has a rabbit.
Features and Accessories
The audio system mimics the original 2CV’s flat-twin engine sound while the horn plays a cheerful tone. Instead of a traditional center console, the space holds a removable wicker basket and a detachable portable speaker called the “RadioĆ«n.” CitroĆ«n says tartan fabric and hanging lanterns might return as accessories rather than standard equipment.
