Nissan has confirmed the name of its upcoming small electric car: the Pixo EV. Instead of opting for the rumored ‘Wave’ name, Nissan is bringing back the Pixo moniker, despite its previous association with a less-than-stellar model. The car is expected to be priced under £20,000 when it reaches showrooms in 2027.
The Pixo EV shares its platform and technology with the Renault Twingo E-Tech. Spy photos reveal a squarer headlight design compared to the Twingo, resembling the Renault 5 E-Tech. Early reports suggest the Pixo draws inspiration from Nissan’s Pike Factory cars, known for their retro styling in the 1980s and 1990s. The best-known ‘Pike Car’ is the Nissan Figaro convertible, but the Pike Factory also produced the S-Cargo, Pao, and Be-1, each celebrated for their compact charm and unique design.

Built on the Renault Group’s AmpR Small platform, the Pixo is expected to feature a 27.5kWh battery pack using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. It will likely have a 60kW motor, delivering around 80bhp, with a 0-62mph time of approximately 12 seconds and a range of about 160 miles per charge. Production will take place at the Renault Group Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia, leveraging the same facility as the Twingo E-Tech.
The Pixo will serve as Nissan’s entry-level electric vehicle, positioned below the Micra EV. Its compact dimensions and specifications closely mirror those of the Twingo, with a focus on efficiency due to its low weight. Sharing its underpinnings with the 2026 Genius Awards Small Car of the Year, the Pixo is expected to benefit from proven engineering and design.
